Word Counter — free online tool

You're writing something with a length in mind — an essay that needs 500 words, a post that has to fit a limit, a tweet that's running long. Counting by hand is a pain, and most counters online make you paste your text somewhere you don't quite trust. We added a free tool that does it — Word Counter — right in your browser.

What it does

It counts your words, characters and sentences while you type, and shows an estimated reading time so you know how long the text takes to get through. Everything updates live as you write or edit, so you always see where you stand without pressing a button.

Nothing leaves your device

The tool runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never uploaded to a server and nothing is saved. When you close the page, it's gone — so you can paste in anything, even private notes, without worrying.

How to use it

  1. Open Word Counter.
  2. Type your text or paste it into the box.
  3. Read the live word, character, sentence and reading-time counts as you go.

It's free with no limit. There are more small tools on the Apps page.
