UPC / EAN Check Digit Calculator — free online

You're setting up a product, and the barcode number looks fine — but is the last digit actually correct? That tiny check digit is easy to get wrong, and a wrong one means the scanner reads garbage. We added a free tool that sorts it out — UPC / EAN Check Digit — right in your browser.

What it does

You type in a barcode number, with or without the final check digit. If you leave it off, the tool works out the right check digit for you. If you include it, the tool tells you whether it's valid. It handles UPC-A (12 digits), EAN-13, EAN-8, and ITF-14 (14 digits), so most of the codes you'll meet on a product are covered.

Nothing leaves your device

The tool runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type stay on your screen — nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is saved anywhere. You can use it on a slow connection or even offline, and the result is just maths done on your own machine.

How to use it

  1. Open UPC / EAN Check Digit and pick the barcode type you're working with.
  2. Type in your number, with or without the last digit.
  3. Read the result — either the computed check digit or a clear valid / not valid answer, and copy it.

It's free with no limit. There are more small tools on the Apps page.
