Placeholder Image Generator — free online

You're building a page and there's a hole where an image should go. You don't have the real picture yet, but you need something to fill the box so you can see how it looks. We added a free tool that does it — Image Placeholder Generator — right in your browser.

What it does

It makes a placeholder image at any width and height you type in. You can have a solid color or a gradient, pick the colors yourself, and add a small size label on top so you remember the dimensions. When it looks right, you download it as a PNG or copy the data URL to drop straight into your code.

Nothing leaves your device

Everything happens in your browser. The image is made on your own computer, nothing is uploaded to a server, and nothing is saved anywhere. When you close the tab, it's gone.

How to use it

  1. Open Image Placeholder Generator and type the width and height you need.
  2. Choose solid or gradient, set the colors, and turn the size label on if you want it.
  3. Download the PNG or copy the data URL and use it.

It's free with no limit. There are more small tools on the Apps page.
