Email Preheader Counter — free online tool

You write a nice subject line, hit send, and then you see it in the inbox: the little grey preview text next to it got chopped off mid-word. That preview line, the preheader, is the second thing people read, and every email app trims it at a different spot. We added a free tool that helps you get it right — Email Preheader Counter — right in your browser.

What it does

Type your preview text and watch the character count update as you go. It tells you whether you are in the sweet spot, and it shows you exactly where each major email client cuts the line off, so you know what people will actually see in Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook and the rest.

Nothing leaves your device

The whole thing runs in your browser. Your text stays on your screen — nothing is uploaded, nothing is saved anywhere. Close the tab and it is gone.

How to use it

  1. Open Email Preheader Counter and type or paste your preview text.
  2. Watch the live count and the cut-off markers for each email app.
  3. Trim it until it reads well everywhere, then copy it into your email.

It's free with no limit. There are more small tools on the Apps page.
